Music in May: The ParkinSongsters’ Spring Concert

For this year’s spring concert The ParkinSongsters present an eclectic programme of firm favourites by composers such as Ivor Novello and Simon & Garfunkle, alongside a medley of musicals across the years. Our guest singer is the tenor Barry Clark, whose long and illustrious career has taken him from D’Oyly Carte to solo roles in Phantom of the Opera, appearances with Scottish Opera and numerous UK and international venues. He was a founder member of Tarantara Productions, who until recently performed Gilbert & Sullivan throughout the UK.
Entrance to the concert is free, but donations are invited to help with funding the work of Parkinson’s UK – Bexhill, Hastings and Rother group.
The concert lasts for approximately 45 minutes and is followed by tea and (some) homemade cakes.
Our Next Performance
Carols, Seasonal Songs & Readings
The ParkinSongsters present an informal concert celebrating the spirit of Christmas, with special guest, local poet Tim Barlow. Tim believes that poetry – especially performance poetry—is a small act of rebellion. “Instead of staying home to scroll and buy, you write, go out, read to others and talk” His work features in the anthology Poet Town – the poetry of Hastings and thereabouts.

About Our Concerts
Why We Stage Concerts
Whilst singing together as a group helps consolidate breathing and voice exercises, performing for an audience adds another layer to the benefits of singing, giving us something to aim for. Nobody is obliged to take part in the concerts; it’s entirely your choice.
Rehearsals
Our Monday sessions are a mix of exercises and singing songs old and new, many of which are incorporated into concerts. So in effect we are always “rehearsing”.
Our Audience
Having an audience to perform to is all part of the fun of putting on a show, so we encourage members to invite family and friends and anyone who’d like to come and hear the work we do.
Attending a Concert
It’s free to attend a concert but donations are invited to support the work of Parkinson’s UK. After the concert, there is a tradition of delicious cake and tea.
The songs are going round in my brain today, especially What a Wonderful World – Foggy, Foggy Dew – You’ll Never Walk Alone – Yellow Submarine – Hippopotamus song. Wonderful choices!
